Abstract

PURPOSE: A remedy for a microbial infections disease, particularly effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and comprising a specific neutral polysaccharide, e.g. glycogen or amylopectin.
CONSTITUTION: A remedy comprising a neutral polysaccharide, e.g. glycogen or amylopectin, which consists of D-glucose as a constituent unit, has a chain formed by α-1,4-glucoside bonds as a main structure, and a branch formed by α-1,6- glucoside bonds, and seldom α-1,3-glycoside bonds. The glycogen is a polysaccharide stored in animals and plants, and the amylopectin is a main constituent of starch; however, the use as a medicine has been scarcely known. The remedy is particularly effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus prodigiosua, or Bacterium pneumoniae, by parenteral administration of the remedy alone or with an antibiotic.
