Abstract
PURPOSE:To simplify the terminal processing and the drive circuit by providing perpendicularly crossing shift channel for the starting of discharge adjascent to each write discharge cell of a plurality of indicating shift channels to enable the use of the writing electrode in common. CONSTITUTION:The starting discharge spot produced by applying the lighting pulse PR on a starting discharge cell S at unit period t0 is shifted sequentially to the left end along shift channel DSC1 from discharge cell a1, b1 to b1, c1 as the pulse train is sequentially switched at next unit periods t1, t2,.... When applying a write pulse PW on a writing electrode W with response to the information at time T3 corresponding to the timing when the starting discharge spot shifted to cells d3 and a4, desired spot is produced in the writing discharge cell W3 and sequentially shifted along channel DSC3 through similar operation.
