Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable high-accurate measurement, by receiving reflected waves through an automatic gain control circuit and applying a control signal as an output through a D/A converter.
CONSTITUTION: The device comprises a control section 1 made of a microcomputer, a transmitting section 2, a receiving section 3 and a temperature measuring section 5. The control section 1 counts the output pulses P of a Schmitt circuit 3d. When the counted value is smaller than a prescribed number, a digital signal is applied to a D/A converter 4 to increase the gain of an AGC amplifier 3c. When the counted value is larger than the prescribed number, a digital signal is applied to the D/A converter 4 to decrease the gain of the amplifier 3c. The time from the emission of tone burst waves to their reception is determined by the control section 1 and multiplied by the sound velocity compensated by a measured temperature value, thereby determining the distance from a head to the surface of snow. The distance is substracted from that between the head and the surface of the ground to determine the depth of the deposited snow.
