Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the characteristics of covered films from being deteriorated owing to the action of Co in the base material of sintered hard alloy parts by heating the parts in a specified atmosphere to enrich the part surfaces with a B-1 solid soln. and covering them with Al and Zr oxides. CONSTITUTION:Sintered hard alloy parts consisting of WC and a B-1 type solid soln. having face-centered cubic system crystal structure as hard phases and of one or more among Fe, Co, Ni, Cr, Mo and W as a binder are held in an atmosphere of 900-1500 deg.C and 1-1000 Torr in N2 and/or CO partial pressure for 10min- 5hr to almost throughly cover the part surfaces with the solid soln., and they are covered with Al2O3 and ZrO2 by chemical vapor deposition. By this treatment Co as a binding phase metal in the base material of the parts almost disappears on the material surface to prevent the characteristics of the covered films of Al2O3 and ZrO2 from being deteriorated.
