Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture the cover glass a display tube, whose display surface is flat, with good yield by adhering glass plate to the upper mold as a male mold by means of an attracting force of a concaved space formed in a part of the upper mold.
CONSTITUTION: The flat plate glass piece 7 is placed on the lower mold 14 provided with the concavity 3 of a shape matching that of the flat plate glass piece, and then the intermediate mold 13 is superposed on the glass piece 7 by fitting in with the guide pin 4 of the lower mold 14 and the peripheral portions of the glass piece 7 are fixed. Then, the upper mold 12 as a male mold whose projected portion 16 as a display surface is provided with the concavity 17 is superposed on the glass piece 7, together with a load as needed, and then inserted into a furnace of an inert gas atmosphere for molding by heating. Then, the molding is taken out of the furnace and then adhered to the concavity 17 by means of an attracting force of the atmosphere gas enclosed tightly in the space of the concavity 17 and cooled while preventing the dropping of the glass piece 7.
