Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it easy to manufacture devices by dividing light from one light source via a polarizer according to time and then by forming a reading spot at the center of a track and a tracking spot at its side edge part.
CONSTITUTION: A beam from laser 24 is focused on track 7 on a disk by way of lenses 3 and 5. Polarizer 25 at a halfway point of a beam path is applied with the output of selective signal generator 22 via polarization driving circuit 26. With polarizer 25 OFF, a read spot is image-formed in the center of track 7 and with polarizer 25 ON, a tracking spot is image-formed at the side-edge part of track 7. Light beams from both the spots are reflected by half mirror 4 in sequence and supplied as output signals to switch 11 by way of photodetector 9 and amplifier 10. Signal generator 22 sends a tracking spot signal from switch 11 to servo system 38 and a read spot signal to reproduction system 37. Consequently, it is made easy to manufacture devices.
