Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the existence of a flaw, its size, etc., accurately by detecting the number of impulse responses by putting it to practical use that the detection signal of the acoustic sensor of a piezoelectric vibrator, etc., is the impulse response of vibration acceleration by the flaw.
CONSTITUTION: A piezoelectric signal detected by acoustic sensor 3 is input via amplifier 4 to band-pass filter 5, which removes random electric noises. Output SS of this detected signal, therefore, becomes a signal of a nearly-constant frequency and its envelope forms the impulse response waveform of an impulse wave generated due to a flaw, etc., of axis 1. Then, this detected signal is supplied to discriminator 6 to generate signal P every time it exceeds threshold level TL. Counter 8 counts pulse signal P for a predetermined unit time and the count value is displayed. Since the number of waves of this pulse signal P changes corresponding to the size of the flaw, the size of the flaw can accurately and easily be detedted from this number of waves.
