Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the joint strength and improve sealability and durability by forming unevenness on the fitting portion to be joined of the pipe which undergoes electromagnetic joining and drawing the pipe onto the uneven portion thereby accomplishing firm joining.
CONSTITUTION: The pipe 1 to be formed is composed of material which is strong and does not readily deform. An uneven part 1a is formed to this pipe. The other pipe 2 to be formed is made of material which is easy to deform. The forming is accormplished by charging a capacitor 6 while controlling a charging switch 7 and performing electric discharge by closing a discharging switch 8. Impulse current is flowed to a forming coil 3 to generate changing magnetic fields. The electromagnetic force thereof is concentrically acted upon the forming portion of the pipe 2 and the pipe 2 is compressed and drawn by a shaver 4, whereby it is compression-formed to the uneven portion 1a of the inside pipe 1.
