Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise the oil absorbability of an oil absorbent obtained by adding an inorganic or organic oil-absorptive powder to a nonwoven fiber assemblage or an organic foamed substance by combined use of a specific means.
CONSTITUTION: An oil absorbent is obtained by combining one or more processes of the following A, B, and C: A is those obtained by adding an oil absorptive powder to a nonwoven fiber assemblage or an organic foamed substance being manufactured; B is those obtained by attaching an oil absorptive powder to the surface of a nonwoven fiber assemblage or an organic foamed substance by means of an adhesive or hot melting while C is those obtained by sealing an oil absorptive powder ino a nonwoven fiber assemblage or an organic foamed substance. Said oil absorbent is effective not only for the removal of oils floating on the surface of water, but for cleaning oil-stained facilities and apparatus and also for collecting gaseous or misty oils as well.
