Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the dynamic range without lowering the picture quality by clipping the minor signal part via the clipping circuit featuring the nonlinear input/output characteristics and then amplifying the major signal part up to such polarity that the positive polarity signal may be fed back to the cathode of the pickup tube.
CONSTITUTION: The output current of target 18 of photoconductive pickup tube 17 is converted to the voltage drop by load resistance 17 the other end of which is connected to target bias voltage source 21 and then amplified through preamplifier 22 to draw out the video signals through terminal 23. At the same time, the minor signal part is clipped and deleted via clipping circuit 24 featuring the non linear input/output characteristics, and the major signal part is amplified up to such polarity that the positive polarity signal may be fed back to cathode 19 of the pickup tube. Then the black level is fixed by clamping circuit 25 when the output signal is zero to be fed back to cathode 19 which is biased to the earth potential via resistance 26. In this way, the dynamic range can be increased without lowering the picture quality.
