Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A diester synthesized from diglycolic acid and 4W22C monohydric alcohols.
EXAMPLE: Di-2-ethylhexyl diglycolate.
USE: Various lubricating oil for industrial use, especially excellent as a lubricating oil for plastic working of metals. Excellent in coefficient of friction, resistance to load, resistance to wear and thermal stability.
PROCESS: The title compounds are obtained from 4W22C monohydric alcohols (e.g. butyl alcohol, etc.) and diglycolic acid by the usual esterification reaction or ester interchange reaction. Diesters obtained from monohydric alcohols having less than 3 carbons are inferior in lubricating properties and thermal stability, and those obtained from monohydric alcohols having more than 23 carbons have too high freezing point or are inferior in compatibility with other lubricating oil.
