Abstract

CONSTITUTION: A water-soluble monomer which alone is not graft-polymerizable with starch [e.g. sodium (meth)acrylate, vinyl sulfonate], is graft-polymerized, in the presence of a water-soluble monomer selected from a compound of formula I [R1, R2 and R3 are H, or CH3; R4 is H or 1W5C alkyl(derivative), n is 1W20], (tetrahydro)furfuryl (meth)acrylate and 3-chloro-2-hydroxy-propyl (meth)acrylate, with starch such as potats starch, to produce a modified starch is good yield.
