Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve a stable operation with little variation in pressure drop by contacting gas and liquid using complex shelves made from combination of two or more grates or porous plates having specific porocity.
CONSTITUTION: This method applies grate-type complex shelves 2a, 2b consisting of two layers of shelves 2' having 25W80% opening ratio Fc normally used in a leak-shelf tower. In this structure, liquid drops from the top shelf 2b, hits on the surface of the lower shelf 2a and forms fine droplets so as to perform material transfer and dust-removing action within the shelves. Liquid can be supplied from a simple distribution pipe to the topmost shelf. This complex shelf provides a gas-flow pressure-drop as shown in the curve 2 having specific range B-B'-C which cannot be found in a single shelf operation. Thus, an operation at a superficial velocity in this range causes little variation in pressure drop.
