Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the position of the recording heads of an impulse pump type ink jet recorder with high accuracy through cheap equipment, by using a slitted plate of relatively large slit intervals and furnishing interpolation between the outputs of a slit detector.
CONSTITUTION: While a shuttle bar 5 is reciprocated, ink heads 11W16, 21W26, 31W36, 41W46 are driven by pulses to perform four-color recording. When the reciprocation of the shuttle bar 5 is simple harmonic vibration, for example, the original scanning pulses of the output signals of a detector 9 obtained through a slitted plate 8 having a rough slit pattern have no equal intervals. The time interval dt of a preceding section (m-1) is divided at a desired ratio to determine a time dt. This time dt is divided by a divisor P to determine a time dt/P. A position detection signal is generated through an interpolation circuit at each time dt/P to interpolate the succeeding section m. As a result, the positions of recording heads can be detected with high accuracy by cheap equipment.
