Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the recycling efficiency of acetic acid and the economy of the process for the preparation of the title compound by the vapor phase reaction of a conjugated diene compound, acetic acid, and oxygen, by distilling and separating the unreacted acetic acid contained in the reaction product mixture with a specific process.
CONSTITUTION: In the preparation of an unsaturated diester by the vapor-phase reaction of a conjugated diene compound such as butadiene, acetic acid and oxygen in the presence of a solid catalyst, the reaction product mixture is introduced to the first distillation column to separate water, and the bottom liquid composed mainly of the unreacted acetic acid and the unsaturated diester is discharged from the bottom of the column. The temperature and the pressure of the column bottom are pref. maintained at ≤180°C and about 0.5W5kg/cm2 respectively. The bottom liquid is fed to an acetic acid vaporizer installed before the reactor, and the vaporized acetic acid is fed to the reactor. Crude unsaturated diester taken out from the bottom of the acetic acid vaporizer is introduced into the second distillation column, and pure unsaturated diester is extracted from the bottom of the column.
