Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate controlling of an amount of resin impregnated into a glass fiber bundle cut object, by a method wherein a mixture of glass fiber cut object and an aqueous emulsified matter is dried for pulverization after being half-dried.
CONSTITUTION: There is gathered into a bundle 400W2,000 pieces of glass fibers with the size of 9W16μ whereon a bundling agent is applied, the bundle being cut to glass fiber bundle cut objects with the length of 2W13mm. With an aqueous emulsified matter or suspensoid matter comprising 10W70wt% of thermoplastic resin, such as epoxy resins, PS and the like, there is mixed 5W50wt% of the glass fiber bundle cut object. The mixture is heated to evaporate a part of water, which results in putting the mixture in a half-drying condition where there remains 3W20wt% of water. The half-dried matter is then pulverized into small lumps having a proper size, and the small lumps are heated to evaporate water completely. Simultaneously, thermoplastic resins are melt-adhered to the glass fiber bundle cut object.
