Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a carrier having stable triboelectric characteristics, high durability, and uniform chargeability, by coating the surfaces of carrier core particles with a coating material containing one or more of a resin having specified acetal structural units.
CONSTITUTION: A homopolymer having structural units represented by the formula (R1 is H or CH3; R2 is optionally substituted alkylene or arylene; X is halogen, carboxy, nitro, amido, cyano, alkoxycarbonyl, or -NR3R4; and R3, R4 are H or optionally substituted alkyl or aryl), or a copolymer having the above units and those derived from another monomer, such as acrylate or styrene, has a mean molecular weight of 5000W50000, and this polymer alone or mixed another resin high in compatibility is dissolved in a solvent and coated on the surfaces of the carrier core particles using a fluidized bed apparatus or the like in a thickness of 0.1W30μ. The carrier obtained thus is free of stickiness and agglomeration tendency, high in fluidability, adhesiveness between the core particles and the coat films, and abrasion resistance of the coat film.
