Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a titled branch pipe excellent in fittability and fusion-weldability to a main pipe by a method wherein a syntheic resin pipe is installed in a die having an upper surface curved with a predetermined radius of curvature, and the whole body is heated while inserting a male die into the pipe from the mouth of the pipe. CONSTITUTION:A die 6 has an inside diameter roughly equal to the outside diameter of a blank pipe 5, has an upper surface 9 curved inward with a radius of curvature adapted to the shape of the tip end portion of a branch pipe to be produced, and has an inside wall surface in the shape of a bell pipe. With the blank pipe 5 installed upright in the die, a small-diametered portion 10 of a made die 8 is inserted into the pipe 5 from the open end of the pipe 5 while heating the whole. The tip end portion of the softened pipe 5 is pressed against the upper surface 9 of the die 6 by a curved joint surface 12 of the male die 8, to shape the upper end portion 13 of the pipe 5 into a bell mouth. Thus, a cross-linked polyethylene insulated cable excellent in fittability to a main pipe and free from deformation of tip end portion is obtained, with largely reduced rejection rate of the product.
