Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to carry operation on automatically even in case of a disconnection of a common transmission line, by providing a terminating unit and switching method to each station in the data transmission system where several stations are connected to the common transmission line by branching. CONSTITUTION:In case that the transmission line between stations S1 and S2 is cut at the cross-mark point, receiver/driver 6 detects the cut point being between stations S1 and S2; switches 4a and 4b up to stations S3-Sn connect the transmission line directly and in station S1, switch 4a makes a direct connection and 4b makes a connection to terminating resistance 5b. In station S2, switch 4b makes a direct connection and 4a is placed where a connection to terminating resistance 5a is made. Consequently, even if one point of the transmission line would be disconnected, both the terminals are terminated to constitute the common transmission line of a data highway by one group of common transmission lines so that the system will never run into trouble.
