Abstract
PURPOSE: To measure only the breaking resistance of ice plank by suspending an experimental model, which is placed on the central part of the framed bed that runs on the ice, by a supporter that is provided with both a stress detector and a damper and by oscillatably connecting the model to the bed by another supporter that is equipped with a stress detector.
CONSTITUTION: The experimental model 2 is placed on the central part of the framed bed 1 that runs on the ice, and is suspended from the upper part of the framed bed 1 by the supporter 3 which is provided with the vertical-stress detector 10 and the damper 9, the other supporter 4 which is equipped with the horizontal -stress detector 12 is oscillatably installed between the model and the bed. When such an experimental device is pulled by the winch 16 or the like, the framed bed 5, 5 is slidden on the ice 19 and the experimental model 2 breaks the ice while it runs on the ice. In this way, the vertical and horizontal stresses which the experimental model 2 receives from the ice plank 19 can be detected to obtain the breaking resistance of the ice plank. Since the vertical motion of the experimental model 2 caused by a crack of the ice is absorbed by the damper 9, a result that approximates the case of an actual ship can be obtained.
