Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the deterioration of picture quality when the picture is projected with extension, by providing the optical path division means splitting the optical path into a plurality between the cathode ray tube and the screen. CONSTITUTION:The optical path from the cathode ray tube 1 to the screen 2 is split with prism to form two projection images slightly shifted parallelly toward vertical direction on the screen 2 in the range within one scanning line interval, and these projection images are synthesized on the screen 2 to obtain the projection image 4a. The number of the horizontal scanning lines is doubled in this projection image 4a not to make distinction the stripes and to reduce the effect of moire. As the means splitting the optical path from the cathode ray tube 1, the methods such as prism, refraction of plate glass, and use of a right triangle prism having narrow top angle in the cross section, can be considered.
