Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:Galacturonides of formula I (R1 is H, methyl, metal ion as Na or K; R2 is methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, phenyl, pyridyl; A is O, S) or its methyl ester.
EXAMPLE: Ethyl-α-D-thiogalacturonide.
USE: Antibiotics for agriculture, floroculture, and preservation of timber: since they are glycosides they are harmless against man and animal and remain stably in long periods of time to show antipectinase activity.
PREPARATION: The compound of formula II is oxidized in the presence of platinum oxide or the like to give the objective compound of formula I, which is methylated to give the methyl ester and made to react with a metal compound to give the metal salt.
