Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a shaped piece of desired form without using a metal mold, by expanding a heated thermoplastic resin sheet under increased or reduced pressure while revolving the sheet and by adjusting and cooling the expanded shape along the ejection ends of a plurality of coolers. CONSTITUTION:A square thermoplastic resin sheet made of polyvinyl chloride, polymethyl acrylate, ABS resin, styrol, polycarbonate, polypropylene or the like and having a thickness of about 1-5mm and a length of about 200-1,000mm in each side is previously heated to a plastic deformation temperature. The sheet 2 is pinch-held on a supporting frame 1. The pressure on the sheet is increased or reduced while the sheet is revolved by a driver not shown in Fig. The sheet 2 is thus convexly expanded. The sheet is shaped into a desired form by appropriately changing the length of coolers 3 and the ejection quantity or pressure of a cold fluid. After the shaping is completed, the shaped piece is cooled. The revolution of the supporting frame 1 is stopped. The shaped piece is then picked out. According to this method, various kinds of flawless shaped pieces of uniform thickness can be easily manufactured.
