Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title polymer useful as p-type semiconductors for electrical elements, capable of giving high electric conductivity, by treating an acetylene high polymer having a fibrous crystallite structure with nitric acid or fuming one which is an electron accepting compound of low toxicity.
CONSTITUTION: Acetylene gas is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst, prepared by mixing titanium tetrabutoxide with triethylaluminum in a solvent, e.g. toluene, in the atmosphere of nitrogen at -78°C and 1atm for 1hr, to give an acetylene high polymer having a fibrous crystallite (fibrillar) structure. The resulting polymer is then doped with nitric acid or fuming one for 5sec to form the objective polymer.
EFFECT: p-n Hetero junction elements can be readily obtained by combination with n-type semiconductors.
