Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate water of high purity from an oil-water mixt., by use of a filter composed of a mixt. of inorg. fibrous material with asbestos.
CONSTITUTION: The filter is formed with a mixt. of inorg. fibrous material such as glass fiber with asbestos which is formed into a cylinder A; with metallic mesh D surrounding the outer periphery of the cylinder A; with a porous material C which is in layer on the inner periphery of the cylinder A; and with an overflow pipe B which is forced into the inside of the cylinder and through which separated water is taken out. The ratio by wt. of the inorg. fiber to the asbestos in the range from 80/20 to 99.7/0.3 is effective, however, the ratio from 95/5 to 99/1 is pref. because high asbestos ratio is disadvantageous due to low filtration efficiency. Use of either inorg. or org. material as the porous material C has no difficulty if water flows easily and as far as the shape of the cylinder A is kept. During filtration, oil-water mixt. flows into the cylinder, as shown by arrows, from the metallic mesh D side, and the separated water is taken out through the overflow pipe B.
