Abstract
PURPOSE:To surely prevent a burn-out failure of a stabilizer of the discharge lamp, by delaying to operate the other thermally operating element and partially fusing the circuit in an outer tube when one of the series-connected two thermally operating elements is in no operation. CONSTITUTION:When the auxiliary discharge between a main electrode 3a and an auxiliary electrode 10 continues for a prescribed length of time, a bimetal 6a of the first thermally operating element works to release the connection between a connecting lead 21 and movable contact 15' and shift the operation toward the main discharge between main electrodes 3a, 3b, subsequently the contacting state between a movable contact 16 and fixed connecting rod 13 of a bimetal 6b of the second thermally operating element connected in series to the bimetal 6a is opened. Here if the contact 15' and the lead 21 are welded, the bimetal 6b works to open the contact state between the contact 16 and a fixed connecting rod 14, generate a discharge between locations of the lead 21 and a filament 7 or filament fixing rod 22 and the like having a different potential finally fuse those parts. In consequence, the circuit in an outer tube 1 is partially disconnected to cease an electric current conduction, thus to surely prevent a burn-out failure of the stabilizer.
