Abstract
PURPOSE: To easily meter the length of a body at any widthwise position by using two cameras which have their fields of view in the longitudinal and widthwise directions.
CONSTITUTION: A focusing system, which has an angle of view θ at symmetrical positions of θ/2 with respect to an optical axis, is arranged in the running direction 2 of a body 1 at a spacing L4 between the optical axes from a second camera 6 which has a field of view corresponding to the width W of the body in the widthwise direction with respect to a first camera 3 having a one-dimentional sensor array. And, the length l of the body 1 at one widthwise point by the first camera 3 as well as both the time period T from the time when the leading end of the body 1 reaches the optical axis of the camera 3 to the time when the same reaches the optical axis of the second camera 6 and the time period ti from the time when the body comes long the axis of the camera 3 to the time when the leading end of the body 1 reaches the respective fields of view Ai (i: 1 to m) outside of the axis of the camera 6. Thus, the length of the body 1 in any widthwise position can be obtained by the circuit 5 from the running speed of the body 1, the times ti and T, the inter- axis distance L4 snd the total length l.
