Abstract

PURPOSE:A hair treatment effective for preventing and treating poliosis, with great safety, capable of taking part in melanin formation in hair roots, comprising squalane as an active constituent. CONSTITUTION:A hair treatment comprising (A) 5vol% or more, preferably 5-10 vol%, of squalane and (B) an agent, e.g. an oily hair conditioner or shampoo. The effective amount of the treatment is about 100-500mg calculated as squalane, and its use once a day is sufficient for preventing poliosis. The mechanism of its action is considered to be the inactivation of SH groups in sulfur-containing amino acids in hair roots. The SH groups having the tyrosinase inhibitory action are believed to accelerate the melanin formation.
