Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the bendability of a resin, by cocondensing specific amounts of melamine and formaldehyde with a specific amount of ε-caprolactam in the presence of a guanamine under alkaline conditions.
CONSTITUTION: (A) One mole of melamine is cocondensed with (B) 1.8W3.0 moles of formaldehyde, (C) 0.2W1.5 moles of a guanamine, e.g. aceto-or benzoguanamine, and (D) 5W40 parts by wt, of ε-caprolactam at pH 7W11 and 80W90°C for 40W120min to give a flexible melamine resine.
EFFECT: The internal plasticization with guanamine and ε-caprloactam permits the bending at low temperatures.
