Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce needle-shaped fins efficiently by sprially winding a fine wire belt having a bead on one side coated with a thermoplastic resin around the outer surface of the pipe in such a manner that the bottom of the U shape contacts the surface after formed in a U shape with the bead inside.
CONSTITUTION: A thermoplastic resin is applied on a wire belt 8 in which a plurality of metal wires 4 are arranged parallel not overlapping in such a manner as to form a bead 15 with a specified width whereby the wires are bonded together. The wire is formed in a U shape by bending the central portion thereof with the bead 15 inside, and wound spirally around the outer surface of the pipe 3 in such a manner that the bottom of the U shape contacts the surface of the pipe. With such an arrangement, resin can be fully applied between the wires, while the use of the thermoplastic resin, quick of solidification and large in the plastic deformation, facilitates the even radial molding of U-shaped fins thereby ensuring efficient production.
