Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A naphthoxy compound of formula (R1,2 are H or CH3).
EXAMPLE: 2-[1-(β-Naphthoxy)ethyl]-Δ2-oxazoline.
USE: A high safety herbicide effective to broad-leaved weeds and umbrella plants and harmless to field crops and paddy field rice plant.
PROCESS: The exemplified compound can be prepared, e.g. by (1) dissolving N-(β- chloroethyl)-α-(β-naphthoxy)-propionamide in methanol, (2) adding 5N NaOH aqueous solution to the solution prepared above at room temperature and (3) heating the mixture at 45W50°C for 5 hours under agitation. Applied by adding to the soil or water surface, or to the stalks and leaves of the weeds. Rate of application: 1W50 grams, pref. 5W20 grams per 1 are.
