Abstract

PURPOSE:To shape end portion or marginal portion of an elastic member into a form, excellent in its outer appearance as well as in size precision and having no swelling caused at the top, by holding in a metal mold the elastic member which is softer at its inner portion than at its outer portion as viewed in the cross section, and injecting a material of synthetic resin with the softer portion being covered by a partition plate. CONSTITUTION:A sheet of brain 1, obtained by cutting a brain strip made of solid layer of a non-foamed material at its surface and foamed elastic material at its inside, is inserted into vavity 4 and held tightly therein. A partition plate 9 is supported on movable mold 3b such that it covers, with some spacing 8, the central portion of end face 2 of brain 1 where it is cut off from the braid strip, and the end portion is shaped by injecting into cavity 4 a material of synthetic resin similar to that of braid 1 which can be bonded to the braid 1 in a unitary manner. According to the above method, swelling is not caused at the top of end portions due to recovery of elastic deformation after mold opening, since depression due to elastic deformation is not caused in the end face 2.
