Abstract
PURPOSE: To remove minute impurities positively, and to enable efficient filtering operation, by a method wherein a ceramic porous body forming three-dimensional netty cell structure is made up as a filter medium for molten metal with specified meshes, bulk specific gravity, void ratio, pressure loss, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A ceramic porous body 1 is obtained in such a manner that soft polyurethane foam with no cell film is used as base body, cordierite ceramic magma manufactured by sintering silica, etc. is sticked to the foam and sintered, and said foam is carbonized and removed. The porous body 1 has inside communicating space 2, possesses three-dimensional netty cell structure that causes no clogging in all directions, and is formed in structure that the number of the meshes of the sections is 25 or more and 35 or less per 1cm straight line, bulk specific gravity is 0.4 or more or 0.6 or less, a void ratio is 75% or more or 86% or less, and pressure loss is water columns of 10mm or more or 30mm or less in order to pass the thickness of 1cm at 1m wind velocity per second. The porous body is suitable for materials for example, such as a filter medium for molten metal with melting point of 1200°C or less.
