Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate the separation of n-menthol from a mixture of menthol isomers, by using an X-type or Y-type zeolite as an adsorbent.
CONSTITUTION: l-n-Menthol having refreshing taste and cool skin feeling, and useful as perfumery and medicine, is separated from a mixture composed mainly of menthol isomers, by using a solid adsorbent comprising an X-type zeolite [(0.9± 0.2)M2/nO.Al2O3.(2.5±0.5)SiO2.WH2O (M is cation; n is valence of the cation; W is molar number)], or a Y-type zeolite [(0.9±0.2)M2/nO.Al2O3.(SiO2)Z. (H2O)W (Z is 3W6)], which are crystalline aluminosilicate.
