Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the leaking position of a tube by pressing the outside of the tube, inserting a slider through one end of the tube to shift the tube while maintaining airtightness and detect the variation of the tube pressure.
CONSTITUTION: A slider 12 formed by penetrating plugs 18 each having a size movable within the tube while maintaining airtightness are inserted into the tube from a side having a defective part 11 of a U-shaped tube 1 having a defect in a U-shaped multitubular heat-exchanger. On the other hand, to another end of the U-shaped tube 1 there is connected a manometer 13 consisting of a rubber plug 14, a transparent tube 15, and a mercury column 16. When the outside of the tube is pressed by a suitable gas and a manometer 13 is observed, since there are plugs at the right hand and left hand of the defective part 11, a difference by a height l appears on the mercury column 16 of the manometer 13. However, since the indication of the manometer varies at a point where the plugs 18 pass through the defective part 11, it is possible to find the leak position of the U-shaped tube 1.
