Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the frictional loss at the plain surface of a sliding bearing by cutting out both the sides at part of the sliding surface and the central portion at the other part thereof and varying the effective width of the sliding surface in response to the load variation.
CONSTITUTION: Wide and narrow portions W and N1, N2 are formed in the effective width of the sliding surface of a plain bearing 5a(5b) to vary the sliding surface width in response to the load variation to thereby prevent the frictional loss at the sliding surface. A cutout portion 10 is formed at the central portion of the narrow portion N1 in the width of bearing. Cutout portions 11 are formed at both sides of the narrow portion N2 in the width of bearing. Thus, they can secure sufficient lubricating oil amount to thereby prevent metallic contact due to lack of the lubricating oil film. Further, smooth curved portions are formed at the boundary 13 between the wide portion W and the narrow portions N1, N2 and between the cutout portions 10, 11 of the sliding surface and the sliding portion to thereby prevent occurrence of cavitation.
