Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify fore-treatment and post-treatment and provide the side lap seams of good quality free from corrosion defects by leaving part of the bad conductive film at the bonding parts thereby forming side lap seams.
CONSTITUTION: Prior to starting the work, the bad conductor films R1, R2 covering the surfaces of the bonding parts on the side in contact with wire electrodes a, b in the tin-free steel plates Fe', Fe" which become the welding objects are forcefully removed by a suitable means. After the lap surfaces leaving the bad conductor films Ra, Rb of the bonding parts are superposed with each other, the welding part surfaces are sandwiched by the electrodes a, b and welding current is supplied. Resistance heat evolves over the entire region of the lap surfaces of the bad conductor films Ra, Rb and breaks and fusion bonds the bad conductor films Ra, Rb, thereby forming a side lap seam S3. The heat transferred to the inside and outside surface of the side lap seam S3 radiates from the base metal exposed surfaces of the steel plates Fe', Fe" and no heat accumulation effect on the surface occurs.
