Abstract

PURPOSE: To decrease heat loss and to reduce cycle time remarkably, by interrupting the inflow of air in preheating and hot hydrostatic pressing steps for the material to be treated, thus making the operation in inert gas atmosphere unnecessary.
CONSTITUTION: Preheating furnace B, press. furnace A, and the chamber 11 of transferring unit C for the material M to be treated are equipped with sealing mechanisms 10, 7, 13 using inert gas at their rspective apertures 9, 6, 12. The chamber 11 of the transferring unit C, in which the material is placed,moves on rails 15 to under the preheater B, and a curtain of inert gas, e.g., N2, or Ar is formed by inert gas sealing units 10, 13. Under such condition, the material M is preheated in the preheating furnace B while inflow of air being interrupted. In the same manner the material M is bought into the chamber 11 of the transferring unit C and is moved to under the press. chamber A. The material M brought into the press. chamber A is treated by a hydrostatic press while the inert-ga-sealing units 7, 13 are opreated so as to interrupt the inflow of air.
