Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the discoloration by heat of a ring opening (co)polymer of a specific norbornene derivative and a cycloolefin compound without degrading the properties, by treating the (co)polymer with an aqueous solution of triethanolamine.
CONSTITUTION: One or more types of norbornene derivatives having one or more polar groups or substituents containing the polar group or their mixture with a cycloolefin compound is (co)polymerized in the presence or absence of an unsaturated polymer having C-C double bonds in the presence of a metathesis catalyst. The resulting solution is incorporated with a 10W90 wt.%, preferably 20W50 wt.% aqueous solution of triethanolamine and agitated around room temperature until the solution becomes completely cloudy. The amount of the triethanolamine is 0.5 parts by wt. or more per 100 parts by wt. of the (co)polymer.
