Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare novel physiologically active substances, thielavin A and B, having prostaglandin-biosynthesis-inhibiting, antiphlogistic activities, from fungi belonging to Thielavia genus.
CONSTITUTION: Thielavin-A, B-producing fungi belonging to Thielavia genus, e.g. Thielavia terricola SANK10475 strain (FERM-P NO.4341), are subcultured in a medium containing, e.g., 2% of starch, 1% of glucose, 2% of peptone, and 2% of agar-agar. The thielavin A and B are separated from the medium by extracting with an organic solvent such as ether, ethyl acetate, chloroform, etc.
