Abstract
PURPOSE:To control the charging voltage of the writing picture element by controlling the costant current supply time for the writing picture element in accordance with the video signal. CONSTITUTION:Selector switch Sxi of the data side is turned on only for the time according to the degree of modulation, and the voltage proportional to the on-time is applied to writing picture element M(ij). In short, Sxi is the constant current element. Here, Vs - Vp + I.ti/nC is applied to M with control of ti, where the current is referred to as I, the on-time is ti, the electrostatic capacity is C per picture element, the number of the scan electrode is n, the writing voltage is Vs and the clamping voltage Vp respectively. And the pulses of different amplitudes are applied to the EL element with application of Vr and the bipolar pulse at the refresh time, thus ensuring the light emission in the luminance equivalent to the voltage of the amplitude average value. In this case, ti is decided so that 1/2 the toatal sum of the above voltage may be the necessary luminance. The time during which the selected picture element turns to Vs becomes constant regardless of the data quantity if Vs - Vp is charged previously to all picture elements on scan electrode Y. And no light emission is obtained for the semi-selected picture element if Vs is selected properly.
