Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve crystallization of fluorescent material and thus increase brightness of fluorescent material, by admixing at least one of lithium, cesium and rubidium at the rate of 1 pmmW 100 ppm.
CONSTITUTION: A fluorescent lamp of this invention is made of bulb 1, electrodes 3 attached to the bulb 1, and fluorescent material coated over the inner surface of bulb 1. The fluorescent material is obtained by mixing 90 g of ammonium parawolframate and 0.19 g of magnesium, powdering the mixture for 30 minutes in a ball mill (magnetic ball), and baking it in a quarz crucible for one hour at 500°C. Fluorescent material thus obtained is powdered for 30 minutes in a ball mill and then it is baked 3 hours at 1000°C. Then, after addition of 2 g of Li2CO3 as flux and 20 cc of water, it is dried at 170°C. After drying, it is baked for one hour at 1000°C, washed with water, dried again, and passed through a 200-mesh screen. MgWO4 thus obtained contains Li at the rate of 5 ppm. The same treatment including the secondary baking is also applied to the mixture of 90g of ammonium parawolframate and 0.19g of Mg, and 0.3g of CsCO3 is added to the same as additive. Fluorescent material thus obtained is applied over the inner surface 2 of bulb 1, whereby brightness of the bulb 1 can be increased.
