Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the smoothness, lubricity, abrasion resistance, etc. of the magnetic disc recording medium by blending specific carbon particles in a magnetic coating comprising dispersing magnetic powder in an acrylamide base polymer and forming the magnetic disc recording medium by using this.
CONSTITUTION: A thermosetting magnetic coating is a copolymer of an acrylamide derivative having monomer units shown by the formula (R is H, alkyl) in main chains and methacrylic acid ester, magnetic powder and carbon particles. This is coated on a substrate and is hardened by baking, whereby the magnetic recording medium is produced. The abovementioned carbon particles which are of less than about 0.4μ in particle size are blended at 0.2 to 20 wt% to the magnetic powder.
