Abstract

PURPOSE:To cheaply attain desulfurization efficiency of the title agent equal to that of CaC2 by blasting the outer layer consisting of CaO fine crystals and carbon with the inner layer consisting of CaCO3 and carbon to powder the outer layer and disperse the powder in hot iron when the agent is added to the hot iron. CONSTITUTION:The inner layer consists of CaCO3 fine crystals and carbon of below 1 mu in diameter present among the crystals, and carbon-contg. CaCO3 particles of below 5 mu in diameter cohere to constitute the layer. The outer layer consists of CaO fine crystals and carbon of below 1 mu in diameter present among the crystals, and carbon-contg. quick lime particles of below 5 mu in diameter cohere. The amt. of CaCO3 in the inner layer is 0.5-30 pts. wt. to 100 pts. wt. of the outer layer. When this desulfurizing agent of double structure is added to hot iron, the inner layer is thermally decomposed to stir the hot iron, and at the same time, the desulfurizing compsn. of the outer layer is powdered and dispersed in the hot iron. Thus, the reaction efficiency of the agent can be increased remarkably.
