Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a diphenlbutylamine derivative useful as a drug having central nervous system depressing action in one stage easily, by hydrolyzing a specific diphenylhydroxybutylamine derivative.
CONSTITUTION: A diphenylhydroxybutylamine derivative of formula I: (X is H or halogen) is redueed with an alkali metal borohydride, preferably sodiumn borohydride, in the presence of an acid, e.g. trifluoro acetic, trichloroacetic acids, etc., preferably in an atmosphere of nitrogen in an ice both to give the objective diphenylbutylamine derivative of formula II. The starting material of formula I can be obtained by subjecting the compound of butyrophenone derivative of formula III to the Grignard reaction under normal reaction conditions.
