Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the title specimen useful for the preparation of D-N-carbamoylamino acid useful as an intermediate of pharmaceuticals, by culturing microbials in a medium containing a pyrimidine nucleic acid base, thereby stereospecifically hydrolyzing the 5-substituted hydantoin of the base.
CONSTITUTION: Hydantionase-producing microbials, pref. Pseudomonas striata IFO 12996, Mycobacterium smegmatis ATCC 607, etc., are inoculated in a medium containing usually 0.05W0.5 wt%, pref. o.1W0.2 wt% of a pyrimidine nucleic acid base or its derivative, such as uracil, cytosine, thymine, etc., and aerobically cultured at 20W 40°C, and pH5-9 for 10W75 hours. The hydantoinase specimen is separated from the microbial cells.
