Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a heat-resistant material useful as silicon carbide fibers, thermet, etc., easily in a short time, by adding a specific amount of boric acid (derivative) to an organosilicon compound and sintering the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 100 parts by weight of an organosilicon compound substantially consisting of Si, C and H and containing Si-C as a main skeleton-forming unit, is compounded with (B) 0.01-20, preferably 0.05-5 parts by weight of boric acid (derivative), e.g. trimethyl borate, etc.; and the mixture is sintered e.g. at 800- 1,800°C to give a heat-resistant material.
