Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently reduce NO2 in gas to NO at low temp. by bringing the gas into contact with activated carbon at a specific temp.
CONSTITUTION: NO2-contg. gas 5 is brought into contact with activated carbon 1 in column 10 kept at about 160W320°C with heater 4 and automatic temp. regulator 3 to reduce the NO2 to NO. NH3 is then added to the gas after the reduction while heating with heater 4" and temp. regulator 3", and the NH3-added gas is introduced into column 16 packed with NOx removal catalyst 12 to decompose NOx. The gas thus treated is radiated into the air from exhaust port 9. By this method reduction to NO can be carried out at a lower temp. with higher efficiency compared to a conventional method.
