Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform bright heating of steel hoop while preventing roll pickup in annealing of the steel hoop, by dividing a direct flame heating furnace into three or more zones, and by controlling the gas feed and air feed to each zone according to specific formulas. CONSTITUTION:In annealing of steel hoop 8, a direct flame heating furnace 3 is divided into zones not less than 3 to n. The direct flame heating furnace is operated with the gas feed quantity Qi and air feed quantity qi to the first zone (in this case, zone 4) satisfying formula 1, and with the gas feed quantity Qi and air feed quantity qi to the zone from 1 to n-1 (in this case, zone 1, 2, 3) satisfying formula 2. Hereby bright heating is performed without causing roll pickup (oxidation of the hoop, and adherence of foreign matter, e.g., iron powder, to the rolls).
