Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:2'-0-methanesulfonyl leucomycin A3 having a 2W3C acyloxy group at the 9-position.
EXAMPLE: 9-0-acetyl-2'-0-methanesulfonyl leucomycin A3.
USE: An antibacterial or intermediate for its synthesis, characterized by a 2W3C acylixy group at the 9-position and methanesulfonyloxy group at the 2'-position.
PROCESS: Leucomycin A3 is acylated to form a compound wherein a 2W3C acyloxy group at the 9-position is derived from a hydroxyl group, and the compound is reacted with a methanesulfonating agent, e.g. a methanesulfonyl halide, etc. in the presence of a tertiary amine, e.g. trimethylmine in an inert solvent, e.g. anhydrous acetone, etc. to give the objective compound.
